Venice Hotels, history of excellence

26 02 2008

Venice (Italy) has always been a fascinating destination, soon or later will be impossible to avoid a visit. You can go on holiday, vacation and relax, or for historical interests (churches, museums, architecture) or you can go to celebrate a romantic event or you can even go for work, it is not rare to have great events that normally gather lots of people working. For example the Biennale of art, the most important Italian contermporary art exposition scheduled every 2 years (biennale) in Venice. Or the great Film Festival in the Lido island. Many years ago in 1908 a local family, the Serandrei’s opened a small “Pensione” in via XXII Marzo, one of the most important streets not far from the great St. Mark’s Square and the important Fenice Theatre. Firstly named Internazionale during the years got renamed as Saturnia, but most important got slowly transformed into an Hotel achieving the level of 4 stars. Together in the early 1900 the Serandrei family was managing a world famous pianobar named’ Ciro’s Bar , also mentioned in a Simone De Beauvoir’s book. Ciro’s bar got transformed into a successful first class restaurant in 1960 named La Caravella. Since then, we can surely say that the Hotel Saturnia & International became a property of Charme and has achieved a high consideration throughout the solid management of the same family.  In year 2000 the Serandrei family arrived at the 4th generation of Venetian hoteliers decided to open a new Hotel in Venice,  an hotel with a new concept for the city, an hotel that finally tracked a defined separation between the normal ‘700 hotel’s Venetian style with a more up-to-date modern Design style. Hotel Ca’ Pisani, a 29 rooms Design 4 star property, begun its activity, bringing in Venice the new concept Hotel. Ca’ Pisani Hotel is entirely a mixture with modern ambience and original Art Deco pieces of fornitures like beds in rooms, welcome desk at reception. The innovating idea of having a Design Hotel in Venice was so successful that was soon copied (but probably without the same success) and a couple of other hotels with design concept opended. Nowadays we can say that Hotel Saturnia is a piece of the Venice Hotels tradition with its centennial history and charme, and is a Superior 4 star property, The Ca’ Pisani is the new coming ahead both are great places where to stay in Venice, probably the best choice somebody can ever make depending on its taste.

Tradition & Charme or modernity and Design?

La Caravella is an historical elegant Venice Restaurant, that began activity in the early 60’s as was transformed from a successful piano-bar named Ciro’s  very well known in Venice and even internationally (mentioned in by Simone de Beauvoir in one of her books).La Caravella immediately became one of the most successful restaurant, especially renowned for its French wine and the flambé dishes.Nowadays the restaurant has gained the typical Venetian courtyard in which, during nice season, from spring to autumn meals are served among beautiful and very caracteristic wells.  La Caravella has typical Venetian cuisine offering dishes for the historical culinary tradition of Venice, like “sarde in saor” sardines fried and then marinated in onion, raisins and pine-nuts, or a steamed spider crab are not to be left out “risi e bisi” rice cooked with fresh green peas, which are prepared not like a risotto, but is more likely a soup.  Among the many Venice Restaurants, La Caravella has a good balance between price and quality, remembering that Venice is a bit on the expensive side, consider this restaurant if you are looking for a first class restaurant where to have and unforgettable experience.
